Which of the following would occur as a result of the oval opening in ...
Explanation:
The oval opening in the heart is a normal structure present in a fetus, which allows blood to bypass the lungs and flow from the right atrium to the left atrium. However, this opening should close shortly after birth to prevent the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. If the oval opening remains open after birth, it can lead to a condition called patent foramen ovale (PFO). The consequences of PFO include:

Blood in the right atrium would mix with blood in the left atrium:
As the blood flows from the right atrium to the left atrium through the oval opening, the oxygen-poor blood mixes with oxygen-rich blood. This can reduce the amount of oxygen that is delivered to the body.

Increased risk of stroke:
The presence of the PFO can increase the risk of blood clots passing from the right atrium to the left atrium and then to the brain, leading to a stroke.

Decreased exercise tolerance:
In some cases, PFO can cause shortness of breath, fatigue, and decreased exercise tolerance due to reduced oxygen delivery to the body.

Conclusion:
So, the correct answer is option 'C' - Blood in the right atrium would mix with blood in the left atrium.

Which of the following would occur as a result of the oval opening in ...
Before birth when the foetus remains in the mother womb then there is no need of taking oxygen from the out side because at this moment the foetus is able to take oxygen from the mother's body through placenta. so at this moment there is no need of any path for blood to go to the lung from the atrium so the blood of right and left atrium mixes up. after when it need to take up oxygen from the outside then the foramen of ovale get closed due to high blood pressure of left atrium.
