Total number of cells= mn =24….(1)

Internal resistance of a cell = 0.5Ω

Internal resistance of a row = 0.5xm

Total internal resistance = (0.5m/n)

External resistance = 3Ω

Maximum current flows when total internal resistance = External resistance

Therefore,

 0.5m/n = 3…..(2)

From (1) and (2), we get, m = 12 and n=2.
