The compound may be a racemic mixture
An optically active compound rotate plane polarised light. But due to some external compensation (heat, light, catalyst, solvent etc,) the optically active compound loss their optical activity. The compound then exists as recemic mixture i.e, both d and I form are present in solution due to some intramolecular rearrangement.
So, there is no rotation of plane polarised light and compound does not have an asymmetric centre and when it again forms the symmetric centre bod d-and I forms are the obtained in equal amount.

The compound is certainly meso as it occurs due to internal compensation

?If there is no rotation of plane polarized light by a compound in a s...
Answer:

Introduction:
When plane-polarized light passes through a chiral compound, it may experience a rotation in its plane of polarization. This phenomenon is known as optical activity. However, if there is no rotation of plane-polarized light by a compound in a specific solvent, which is thought to be chiral, it can imply several possibilities regarding the compound's nature.

Possible Interpretations:
1. The compound is certainly achiral: If a compound does not rotate plane-polarized light in a chiral solvent, it suggests that the compound itself is not chiral. Chiral compounds possess asymmetry, and their structure lacks a plane of symmetry or a center of symmetry.

2. The compound is certainly meso: Meso compounds are special types of chiral compounds that possess an internal plane of symmetry. As a result, they do not exhibit optical activity. If a compound does not rotate plane-polarized light in a chiral solvent, it could indicate that the compound is a meso compound.

3. There is no compound in the solvent: It is possible that the solvent used for the experiment does not contain the compound of interest. In such cases, the absence of rotation could be due to the absence of the compound in the solvent.

4. The compound may be a racemic mixture: A racemic mixture is a combination of equal amounts of two enantiomers, which are mirror images of each other. In some cases, a racemic mixture may not exhibit optical activity because the rotations caused by the two enantiomers cancel each other out. If a compound does not rotate plane-polarized light in a chiral solvent, it could suggest that the compound is a racemic mixture.

Conclusion:
The absence of rotation of plane-polarized light by a compound in a chiral solvent can have multiple interpretations. It could indicate that the compound is achiral, meso, or a racemic mixture. Further analysis and experiments are required to determine the exact nature of the compound and its optical activity.
