The flow of energy between various components of the environment has b...
In our environment many organs are dependent on another organised for their fooding purposes. The food they intake work as fuel and give up them energy.
Food chain: it is a sequence of laying organelles that shows the interdependence of organism for their food.
Example:-
Plant ➡ Deer ➡ Tiger
Each level/step of food chain is called tropic level.
In each trophic level transfer of energy takes place.
The amount of energy transfer to an organism from proceeding trophic level is determined by 10% law.
10% law states that only 10% of the energy of one organism is transferred to another organism at next higher trophic level when consumed
Let us take an example
Since, we know that only 1% of the energy is absorbed by the plant from sunlight.
⬇
⬇ 1% of energy
⬇
Plant ➡ Deer ➡ Tiger
(1000 J)
Here, the plant head gain 1000 joule of energy from the sun which is further converted into plant food.
On consuming plant by deer, the deer will get 10% of the energy that plant have available that is 10% of 1000 Joule
Therefore,
energy gain by deer= 10% X 1000J
= 10/100 X 1000 J
= 100J
Now, on consuming deer by Tiger, Tiger will obtain 10% of the energy that their head that is 10% of 100 joules.
Therefore,
energy gain by deer = 10% X 100J
= 10/100 X 100 J
= 10J
Henceforth, transfer of energy take place.
