No sheetal all given the wrong answers.... Actually gravitational potential at centre is non zero and negative........actually you can say it from this formula, V inside the surface = - GM/2R[3-(r/R)^2] actually when we go to centre tge value of r=0 so we get formula= V=-3GM/2R.......im little confused about formula that i gave bcz i studied this chapter 2 months before so I recommend you to see in errorless. If you wanted to know practical reason the see, if you moving any object to the centre of earth it requires certain energy. But if you at infinity then you don't require energy to overcome earth gravity to move object.
