One thing to be kept in mind all along the way for Science preparation is that practice is the key here. The more you practice for every topic, the better understanding is achieved.
These topics should be practiced as much as possible. The key to solve problems is to by-heart the formulas, understand the theorems, and practice as many times as possible. Science can become your favorite subject with practice and dedication.

2. Practice, above all. The range of questions in class 8 is limited. With substantial practice, most question types will be internalized, and you won’t have to think for most questions.
3. Develop a good understanding of topics. It will help you with those challenging questions or derive formulae in the rare chance you forget. This can be done by watching videos for various topics that will help you develop an interest in the topic.
4. Understand all the concepts in as much depth as you can. And then solve different varieties of questions and problems. Attempt various topic-wise and chapter-wise tests. Also, practice mre with sample papers and previous year papers. Use your knowledge to solve some real life questions as well.
5. Give more importance to the topics which have high weightage. Solve the previous year exam papers which will increase your confidence and give you a pre-exam feel. It also helps to brush up all your concepts before the exam.
6. Don’t just read or mug up the topics but practice them. This is the most important thing which you need to keep in mind as reading Science does not help you. Instead, make a routine and give some time for practice.
Chapter 1 - Crop Production and Management
You must have the basic idea of crop production practices.
Chapter 2 - Micro-organisms : Friend or Foe
This is a very interesting chapter about the world that is not visible to the naked eyes. There are many ways in which microorganisms are useful to us but they can be harmful to us as well. We need to be very careful while handling microorganisms.
Chapter 3 - Synthetic Fibres and Plastics
Fabrics are made from fibres obtained from natural or artificial sources. This chapter is all about synthetic fibres obtained by chemical processing of petrochemicals. Synthetic fibres are Rayon, Nylon, Polyester and Acrylic. Today life without plastic cannot be imagined. But we need to use synthetic fibres and plastics in such a manner that we can enjoy their good qualities and at the same time minimise the environmental hazards for the living communities.
Chapter 4 - Materials : Metals & Non-metals
We are living in a world where nobody can live without the use of metals and non-matals. This a very important chapter.
Chapter 5 - Coal and Petroleum
1. Coal
a) Formation
b) Products (coke, coal tar and coal gas) obtained after processing
c) Uses
2. Petroleum
a) Formation
b) Refining
c) Constituent
d) Uses
3. Natural gas
a) Characteristics
b) Uses
c) Advantages of CNG
4. Disadvantages of using fossil fuels
Chapter 6 - Combustion & Flame
1. Combustion (combustible and non-combustible substances)
2. Essential requirement to produce fire
3. Ignition temperature
4. Inflammable substances
5. Methods to control fire
6. Types of combustion
a) Rapid
b) Spontaneous
c) Explosion
7. Flame
a) Colour
b) Zones
8. Fuel
a) Characteristics of good fuel
b) Calorific value
9. Harmful products and effects of burning fuel
Chapter 7 - Conservation of Plants and Animals
This chapter will help you become aware about the current conditions regarding environment on earth and how various factors including human activities are ruining the natural habitats of plants and organisms making their survival difficult in these conditions.
Chapter 8 - Cell - Structure and Functions
This chapter is about you and all other beings. We all are made up of cells and through this chapter we can understand about cell and its organelles.
Chapter 9 - Reproduction in Animals
Chapter 10 - Reaching the Age of Adolescence
You must read all the important topics so you don’t miss out important points and understand the chapter well.
Chapter 11 - Force and Pressure
Picking, kicking, flicking, lifting, hitting, pushing, pulling, opening, shutting, stretching like actions involve the concept of force. Do you know that the force and area over which the force is applied are related. This relation is called pressure.
Chapter 12 - Friction
Do you know that an object moving over the surface of another object slows down and finally stops it? Why do we slip when we step on banana peel? This is nothing, it is friction. Even a gem cannot be polished without this friction. This chapter is all about Jekyll and Hyde of friction.
Chapter 13 - Sound
This interesting chapter has a lot to do with practical knowledge. There are so many types of sound in the nature. Do you know why they are different? This chapter makes you aware about it.
Chapter 14 - Chemical Effects of Electric Current
Like solids, there are certain liquids also which allow current to pass through them. we are asked not to touch an electrical switch or appliance with wet hand for the same reason. The passage of currents through conducting liquids causes certain chemical reactions and these effects are chemical effects of current.
Chapter 15 - Some Natural Phenomena
The chapter includes mostly theoretical topics, which are observed by everyone of us. We should be all well aware of their causes and protection. So, the topics should not only be studied but you should also retain them in your mind for future. As they can be helpful anytime.
Chapter 16 - Light
Light plays a very critical role in our daily life. Why are the things visible? How are there so many colours in the world? How does white sunlight give different beautiful colours? This is an amazing chapter to learn. Shadow and reflection are related with light. This chapter includes all of these.
Chapter 17 - Stars and the Solar System
This is an interesting chapter and you wouldn’t be bored while reading it. It’s about all the objects we see around us in daytime and nighttime in sky. We know that Sun is at the center and also only light source in our solar system. All other eight planets revolve around the Sun. First four planets are rocky while rest of the planets are gaseous planets.
Moon is the only natural satellite to our planet Earth, It is a non-luminous body and reflects the light of the Sun, due to which we see it in phases. You can observe the phases of Moon at night in the sky.
We also see innumerable stars at night when the sky is clear. They are all so far from us. Sun is also a star. If you observe the stars throughout the night, you will notice that they also rises from east and set in west, however pole star is always fixed in the sky.
These stars when viewed carefully, appear to make patterns in the sky. These patterns are known as constellation.
Comets and asteroids are also part of our solar system. Comets come from region beyond the planet Neptune. When they come closer to the Sun, they can be seen in the sky with tails.
Chapter 18 - Pollution of Air and Water
Go through the government initiatives like use of CNG in public vehicles, the ‘odd-even rule’ for private transport in Delhi and ‘Green Delhi-Clean Delhi’ to decrease air pollution, melting of icecaps around the world, greenhouse effect, global warming and respiratory diseases.
Also, read about campaigns like Ganga Bachao Abhiyan and Yamuna Bachao Abhiyan.
Relate all the government initiatives with consequences of air and water pollution to develop a better understanding of both.
1. Air pollution
a) Air pollutants and their types
b) Smog
c) Role of CFCs in ozone hole formation
d) Acid rain
e) Greenhouse effect

2. Water pollution
a) Water pollutants
b) The Ganga case study
c) Potable water
d) Techniques to conserve water
e) 3 R’s i.e Reduce, reuse and recycle
