When hydrogen combines with oxygen, it makes water. Now it normally takes a spark to do this, doesn’t have to be electric, could be a match, or whatever.
Just 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, a little extra energy some how, and you get one water molecule.

When hydrogen combines with oxygen in the presence of an electric current, the chemical reaction that takes place is known as electrolysis of water. This reaction occurs in an electrolytic cell, which consists of two electrodes (anode and cathode) immersed in a solution of water and an electrolyte.

Electrolysis of Water:
During the electrolysis of water, the following reactions occur at the electrodes:

1. At the cathode (negative electrode):
2H₂O + 2e⁻ → H₂ + 2OH⁻

Here, water molecules (H₂O) gain electrons (e⁻) from the cathode and are reduced to form hydrogen gas (H₂) and hydroxide ions (OH⁻).

2. At the anode (positive electrode):
4OH⁻ → 2H₂O + O₂ + 4e⁻

Hydroxide ions (OH⁻) lose electrons (e⁻) at the anode and are oxidized to form water (H₂O) and oxygen gas (O₂).

Final Result:
As a result of the electrolysis of water, hydrogen gas (H₂) is formed at the cathode, and oxygen gas (O₂) is formed at the anode. These gases are released as bubbles from their respective electrodes.

Overall Reaction:
The overall reaction for the electrolysis of water can be represented as follows:

2H₂O(l) → 2H₂(g) + O₂(g)

This means that for every two molecules of water, one molecule of oxygen gas and two molecules of hydrogen gas are produced.

Conclusion:
Therefore, when hydrogen combines with oxygen in the presence of an electric current during the process of electrolysis of water, the result is the formation of water (H₂O).
