A concave mirror forms a threefold magnified real image of real object...
Given:

  • Magnification (m) = -3

  • Object distance (u) = -2.6

To find:

  • Radius of curvature of the mirror

Formula used:

  • m = -v/u

  • 1/f = 1/u + 1/v

  • f = R/2

Solution:

  • Since the image is real and magnified, its magnification is negative. Hence, m = -3.

  • Using the formula, m = -v/u, we get:

  • -3 = -v/(-2.6)

  • Therefore, v = -7.8

  • Using the formula, 1/f = 1/u + 1/v, we get:

  • 1/f = 1/(-2.6) + 1/(-7.8)

  • Therefore, f = -1.3 cm

  • Using the formula, f = R/2, we get:

  • -1.3 = R/2

  • Therefore, R = -2.6 cm

Answer:

  • The radius of curvature of the concave mirror is -2.6 cm.
