Given:

Initial concentration of oxalic acid = 1 M
Volume of oxalic acid = 50 ml
Mass of wood charcoal = 0.5 g
Final concentration of oxalic acid = 0.5 M

To find: Amount of oxalic acid absorbed per gm of carbon

Solution:

1. Calculation of moles of oxalic acid initially present in the solution:

Number of moles = concentration x volume (in litres)

Initial number of moles = 1 x (50/1000) = 0.05

2. Calculation of moles of oxalic acid present in the solution after adsorption:

Final concentration = 0.5 M

Number of moles = concentration x volume (in litres)

Final number of moles = 0.5 x (50/1000) = 0.025

3. Calculation of moles of oxalic acid adsorbed by wood charcoal:

Moles of oxalic acid adsorbed = initial moles - final moles

Moles of oxalic acid adsorbed = 0.05 - 0.025 = 0.025

4. Calculation of amount of oxalic acid absorbed per gm of carbon:

Amount of oxalic acid adsorbed per gm of carbon = moles of oxalic acid adsorbed / mass of wood charcoal

Amount of oxalic acid adsorbed per gm of carbon = 0.025 / 0.5 = 0.05

Amount of oxalic acid absorbed per gm of carbon = 0.05 x 2 x 63.5 (Molar mass of carbon) = 6.35

Hence, the amount of oxalic acid absorbed per gm of carbon is 6.30 (approximately). Therefore, the correct option is (c).
