Step-Up Transformer

A step-up transformer is a type of transformer that increases the voltage of an alternating current (AC) power supply. It does this by having more turns on the secondary coil than on the primary coil.

Given Data

- Primary voltage (Vp) = 120 V
- Secondary voltage (Vs) = 2400 V
- Number of turns in the primary coil (Np) = 75

To find: Number of turns in the secondary coil (Ns)

Formula

The voltage ratio of a transformer is equal to the turns ratio. That is,

Vp/Vs = Np/Ns

where,
Vp = primary voltage
Vs = secondary voltage
Np = number of turns in the primary coil
Ns = number of turns in the secondary coil

Solution

Substituting the given values in the formula, we get

120/2400 = 75/Ns

Cross-multiplying, we get

Ns = (75 x 2400)/120
Ns = 1500

Therefore, the number of turns in the secondary coil is 1500.

Answer: Option (c) 1500
