Solution:

Given, A, B, C, D and E each with different weight.

To find: Who is the lightest among A, B, C, D, and E?

Statement 1: C is heavier than B but lighter than E.

Statement 1 gives us a relationship between B, C, and E. But we cannot determine the lightest person among A, B, C, D, and E with this statement.

Statement 2: A is heavier than B but lighter than D.

Statement 2 gives us a relationship between A, B, and D. But we cannot determine the lightest person among A, B, C, D, and E with this statement.

Statement 3: E is not the heaviest.

Statement 3 gives us information about E. But we cannot determine the lightest person among A, B, C, D, and E with this statement alone.

Considering statements 1 and 2 together, we can draw the following diagram:

A > B > C < e="" /> D

From the above diagram, we can see that A is not the lightest person and E is not the heaviest person.

Therefore, B and C are the only two options left. And from statement 1, we know that C is heavier than B. Hence, B must be the lightest person.

Hence, the correct answer is option (C) only 1 and 2.
