Given: A, B, C hired a car for Rs.1040 and used it for 7, 8 and 11 hours respectively.
To find: Hire charges paid by B
Let the hire charges paid by A, B and C be x, y and z respectively.
Total hire charges = Rs. 1040
x + y + z = 1040 ---(1)
A used the car for 7 hours, B used the car for 8 hours and C used the car for 11 hours.
Let the hire charge per hour be h.
Hire charges paid by A = 7h
Hire charges paid by B = 8h
Hire charges paid by C = 11h
Total hire charges = 7h + 8h + 11h = 26h
Total hire charges = Rs. 1040
26h = 1040
h = Rs. 40
Substituting h = Rs. 40 in equation (1),
x + y + z = 1040
A used the car for 7 hours, so hire charges paid by A = 7h = 7 x 40 = Rs. 280
C used the car for 11 hours, so hire charges paid by C = 11h = 11 x 40 = Rs. 440
Substituting the values of hire charges paid by A and C in equation (1),
280 + y + 440 = 1040
y = 320
Therefore, hire charges paid by B = y = Rs. 320.
Hence, the correct answer is option A) 160.

Let the hire charges paid by A, B and C be x, y and z respectively.
Total hire charges = Rs. 1040
