d = 200 m, a = 16kmph = 40/9 m/s, b = 20kmph = 50/9 m/s
Required Distance D = d*(a/b-a)b= 200*(40/9/10/9) = 800m

Given data:
Distance between the thief and policeman = 200m
Speed of thief = 16 kmph
Speed of policeman = 20 kmph

Let's assume that the thief runs for 't' seconds before he is overtaken by the policeman.

We know that speed = distance/time

Speed of thief = distance covered by thief/time taken by thief = distance covered by thief/t

Therefore, distance covered by thief = speed of thief x time taken by thief = 16 x (t/3600) x 1000m (converting kmph to m/s)

Similarly, distance covered by the policeman = speed of policeman x time taken by policeman = 20 x (t/3600) x 1000m

Now, we can use the fact that the distance covered by the thief and the policeman is the same when the thief is overtaken. Therefore,

Distance covered by thief = Distance covered by policeman

16 x (t/3600) x 1000 = 20 x (t/3600) x 1000 + 200 (adding the initial distance between the thief and policeman)

Simplifying, we get:

4 x (t/3600) x 1000 = 200

t = 200 x 3600 / (4 x 1000) = 1800 seconds

Therefore, distance covered by thief = 16 x (1800/3600) x 1000 = 800m (Option A is correct)

Conclusion:
The thief will have run 800m before he is overtaken by the policeman.
