Axile Placentation in Plants

Axile placentation is a type of placentation found in angiosperms, where the ovules are attached to the central axis of the ovary. It is characterized by the presence of a central placenta or axis in the ovary, which divides the ovary into two or more compartments. The ovules are attached to the placenta or axis, either directly or through a stalk-like structure called the funicle.

Examples of Axile Placentation

Axile placentation is found in many plant families, including:

- Solanaceae: Solanaceae is a family of flowering plants that includes tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Solanaceae plants have axile placentation, where the ovules are attached to the central axis of the ovary.
- Liliaceae: Liliaceae is a family of flowering plants that includes lilies, tulips, and onions. Liliaceae plants also have axile placentation.
- Malvaceae: Malvaceae is a family of flowering plants that includes hibiscus, cotton, and okra. Malvaceae plants have axile placentation, where the ovules are attached to the central axis of the ovary.
- Cruciferae: Cruciferae, or Brassicaceae, is a family of flowering plants that includes broccoli, cabbage, and mustard. However, Cruciferae plants do not have axile placentation.

Why Cruciferae Do Not Have Axile Placentation?

Cruciferae plants have a type of placentation known as parietal placentation, where the ovules are attached to the walls of the ovary. Parietal placentation is characterized by the presence of a single placenta or ridge along the inner wall of the ovary, to which the ovules are attached. This type of placentation is common in many plant families, including Brassicaceae. The reason why Cruciferae does not have axile placentation is not fully understood, but it may be related to the evolutionary history of the family.

Axile placentation is not found ina)Solanaceae b)Liliaceaec) Malvaceae...
Axile placentation means where the ovules placed in the central axis of the ovary. In the cruciferae the placentation is present in the marginal which is along with the central structure. Cruciferae means the ovules present in the inner wall of the ovary and this is called as parietal placentation. Hence the axile placentation does not belong to the family of Cruciferae.
