LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer)

Introduction:

Working Principle:

When the core moves linearly, it induces a voltage in the secondary coil, which is proportional to the displacement of the core.

Conversion of Displacement to Voltage:

As the core moves, it changes the magnetic coupling between the primary and secondary coils. This change in magnetic coupling induces a voltage in the secondary coil. The magnitude and polarity of this induced voltage depend on the position of the core.

Signal Conditioning:
The output voltage of the LVDT is typically an AC voltage. To obtain a usable and measurable voltage, signal conditioning is required. The AC voltage is usually converted to a DC voltage using a rectifier and then filtered to remove any unwanted noise or fluctuations. The filtered DC voltage is then amplified and scaled to obtain the desired output.
