The last king of the Maurya Empire was Brihadratha Maurya. He was the last ruler of the Maurya dynasty and ascended the throne in 187 BCE. However, his reign was short-lived, and he was overthrown by his commander-in-chief, Pushyamitra Shunga, in 185 BCE.

Brihadratha Maurya:
- Brihadratha Maurya was the last king of the Maurya Empire, which was founded by Chandragupta Maurya in 322 BCE.
- He came to power in 187 BCE after the death of his father, Brihadratha Maurya.
- Brihadratha Maurya was a weak ruler and faced internal conflicts and external threats during his reign.
- His commander-in-chief, Pushyamitra Shunga, took advantage of the weak leadership and eventually staged a coup to overthrow Brihadratha Maurya.

Pushyamitra Shunga:
- Pushyamitra Shunga was a general in the Maurya army and played a significant role in the overthrow of Brihadratha Maurya.
- After overthrowing Brihadratha Maurya, Pushyamitra Shunga established the Shunga dynasty and became the first ruler.
- The Shunga dynasty ruled over a significant part of northern India from 185 BCE to 73 BCE.
- Pushyamitra Shunga was known for his patronage of Brahmanism and his efforts to revive Hindu traditions that were suppressed during the Maurya rule.

The Mughal Empire after the 17th century:
- The Mughal Empire, which was established by Babur in 1526, reached its peak under Emperor Akbar in the 16th century.
- However, after the 17th century, the empire began to decline due to various factors such as weak rulers, succession conflicts, and external invasions.
- The decline of the Mughal Empire was also marked by the emergence of regional powers and the rise of the Maratha Confederacy in western India.
- The Mughal Empire faced numerous invasions from foreign powers, including the Persian invasions led by Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Abdali.
- The empire also faced internal conflicts and revolts from various regional powers and factions.
- The 18th century witnessed a series of weak Mughal rulers who were puppet rulers under the control of powerful nobles and regional governors.
- The Mughal Empire officially came to an end in 1857 after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny, when the British East India Company took over control of India.

Overall, the last king of the Maurya Empire was Brihadratha Maurya, who was overthrown by Pushyamitra Shunga. The Mughal Empire, on the other hand, faced a decline after the 17th century due to various factors and ultimately came to an end in 1857.
