The largest quantity of air that can be expired after a maximal Inspiratory effort is called vital capacity. Vital capacity is the maximum volume of air that exhaled following a deep inspiration. This is total of IRV + TV+ ERV. The normal volume of air displacement between normal inhalation and exhalation when no extra effort is applied is known as tidal volume. The vital capacity can be measured by spirometer. The vital capacity can found decreasing during respiratory muscle weakness.
