If equivalent mass of a metal ‘M’ is 12, molar mass (in g)...
In MSO4, Valency of metal = 2
∴ Molar mass of MSO4 = (12 x 2) + 96 = 120g/mol

If equivalent mass of a metal ‘M’ is 12, molar mass (in g)...
Is 10 grams, it means that 10 grams of that metal will combine with or displace 1 gram equivalent of another substance during a chemical reaction. The equivalent mass of a substance is calculated by dividing its molecular weight by the number of hydrogen ions that can be replaced by one molecule of that substance in a chemical reaction.

For example, the equivalent mass of sodium (Na) is 23 g/mol because one mole of sodium can replace one mole of hydrogen ions in a chemical reaction. Therefore, 10 grams of sodium will react with or displace 0.43 grams of hydrogen ions (10 grams/23 g/mol = 0.43 gram equivalents).

Similarly, if the equivalent mass of a metal oxide is 20 grams, it means that 20 grams of that metal oxide will react with or displace 1 gram equivalent of an acid during a chemical reaction. The equivalent mass of a metal oxide is calculated by dividing its formula weight by the number of hydrogen ions it can neutralize in a chemical reaction.

For example, the equivalent mass of magnesium oxide (MgO) is 40 g/mol because one mole of MgO can neutralize two moles of hydrogen ions. Therefore, 20 grams of MgO will neutralize 0.5 grams of hydrogen ions (20 grams/40 g/mol = 0.5 gram equivalents).
