Liquid hydrocarbon can be converted into mixture of gas hydrocarbon by a) hydrolysis b) oxidation c) cracking d) distillation?
Most Upvoted Answer
Liquid hydrocarbon can be converted into mixture of gas hydrocarbon by...

The process of breaking higher hydrocarbons with high boiling points into a variety of lower hydrocarbons that are more volatile (low boiling), is called cracking (or pyrolysis). For example, a higher hydrocarbon
 splits according to the reaction.

The process of cracking or pyrolysis increases the relative amounts of the lower hydrocarbons, which exists in a gaseous state, while higher hydrocarbons exist in the liquid or solid state
Community Answer
Liquid hydrocarbon can be converted into mixture of gas hydrocarbon by...
C) cracking
Higher hydrocarbons are found in liquid or solid state whereas lower hydrocarbons exist in gaseous state.
When we crack higher hydrocarbons we get lower hydrocarbons with lower molecular mass.
That is we get a mixture of lower hydrocarbons.
In this case if we crack liquid hydrocarbon which is a higher hydrocarbon we will get a mixture of gaseous hydrocarbon.

The correct answer is therefore Cracking.
