Muscle contraction:
a. As a nerve impulse( action potential) from a motor neuron arrives via its axon at the neuromuscular junction, the vesicles in the end plate release a neurotransmitter, the acetylcholine, into the nerve-muscle gap (synaptic cleft).
b. Acetylcholine depolarises the postsynaptic muscle cell's sarcolemma and set up an action potential in the latter.
c. The action potential spreads deep into the interior of the muscle fibre via T- tubules and Z lines.
d. The incoming action potential changes the permeability of the SR, causing to release calcium ions.
e. The calcium ions bind to troponin molecules.
f. The latter change shape and shift position.
So, the correct answer is '(ii) →(iv)→(vi)→(i)→(vii)→(iii)→(v)'.

Proper Order of Events at the Neuromuscular Junction:

The neuromuscular junction is the site where a motor neuron makes contact with a muscle fiber, and it is responsible for transmitting signals from the nervous system to the muscles. The following order of events occurs at the neuromuscular junction to trigger muscle contraction:

(ii) Nerve impulse: A nerve impulse, also known as an action potential, is generated in the motor neuron.

(iv) The neurotransmitter acetylcholine is released: The nerve impulse triggers the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from the motor neuron's synaptic vesicles.

(vi) Synaptic cleft: Acetylcholine crosses the synaptic cleft, which is the tiny gap between the motor neuron and the muscle fiber.

(i) Receptor sites on sarcolemma: Acetylcholine binds to receptor sites on the sarcolemma, which is the cell membrane of the muscle fiber.

(vii) Spread of impulses over sarcolemma on T-tubules: The binding of acetylcholine to the receptor sites triggers an electrical impulse that spreads over the sarcolemma and into the T-tubules, which are invaginations of the sarcolemma that help transmit the electrical impulses deep into the muscle fiber.

(iii) Release of Ca2+ from sarcoplasmic reticulum: The electrical impulse in the T-tubules causes the release of calcium ions (Ca2+) from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, which is a specialized network of membrane-bound tubules within the muscle fiber.

(v) Sarcomere shortens: The released calcium ions bind to proteins within the muscle fiber called troponin, which causes a conformational change in the troponin-tropomyosin complex. This change exposes the binding sites on the actin filaments, allowing the myosin heads to bind to them. The myosin heads then undergo a series of chemical reactions that result in the shortening of the sarcomere, which is the basic functional unit of muscle contraction.

Therefore, the correct order of events at the neuromuscular junction to trigger muscle contraction is (ii), (iv), (vi), (i), (vii), (iii), (v) or option 'B'.
