Solution:

- The cube has 8 corners, 6 face centres, and 12 edge centres
- X atoms occupy alternate corners, which means there are 4 X atoms in each cube
- Y atoms occupy alternate face centres, which means there are 2 Y atoms in each face of the cube and 6 faces in the cube. So, there are 12 Y atoms in each cube
- Z atoms occupy alternate edge centres, which means there are 2 Z atoms in each edge of the cube and 12 edges in the cube. So, there are 24 Z atoms in each cube
- Therefore, the ratio of X:Y:Z atoms in the cube is 4:12:24 or 1:3:6
- To get the molecular formula, we need to divide the empirical formula by the smallest ratio. In this case, the smallest ratio is 1, so we divide by 1 to get the molecular formula
- The molecular formula is XY2Z2, which means there is one X atom, two Y atoms, and two Z atoms in each molecule of the solid

Therefore, the molecular formula of the solid is XY2Z2.
