Given data:
Settlement when effective stress increased from 15 to 30 kPa = 25 mm
Effective stress increased from 30 to 60 kPa

To find:
Additional settlement when effective stress increased from 30 to 60 kPa

Solution:
As per the given data,
∆σ = 30 - 15 = 15 kPa
∆H = 25 mm

Using the formula for settlement of a normally consolidated clay layer:
∆H = (C_c * ∆σ * log⁡(1+ (σ_o' /σ_1')))/ (1+e_0')

where,
C_c = compression index
σ_o' = initial effective stress
σ_1' = final effective stress
e_0' = initial void ratio

Let's assume that the initial void ratio is constant and equal to e_0. Thus, the above equation can be simplified as:

∆H = C_c * ∆σ * log⁡(σ_1'/σ_o')

Now, to find the additional settlement when effective stress is increased from 30 to 60 kPa:
∆σ = 60 - 30 = 30 kPa

∆H = C_c * ∆σ * log⁡(σ_1'/σ_o')

25 = C_c * 15 * log⁡(30/15)

C_c = 0.462

Thus, the additional settlement when effective stress is increased from 30 to 60 kPa:
∆σ = 60 - 30 = 30 kPa

∆H = C_c * ∆σ * log⁡(σ_1'/σ_o')

∆H = 0.462 * 30 * log⁡(60/30)

∆H = 25 mm

Therefore, the additional settlement when effective stress is increased from 30 to 60 kPa is 25 mm.
