A tuning fork when sounded along with a standard source of frequency 300 Hz produces 5 beats/sec. The tuning fork when loaded by some wax is again found to give 5 beats/sec with the standard source. The frequency of the fork originally is
  • a)
    290 Hz
  • b)
    295 Hz
  • c)
    305 Hz
  • d)
    310 Hz
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

A tuning fork when sounded along with a standard source of frequency 3...
Solution:

Given, the standard frequency = 300 Hz

Let the frequency of the tuning fork be f.

When the tuning fork is sounded with the standard source, they produce 5 beats/sec.

Therefore, the frequency of the tuning fork can be given by:

f1 = 300 + 5 = 305 Hz

Now, when the tuning fork is loaded with some wax, it again produces 5 beats/sec with the standard source.

Let the new frequency of the tuning fork be f2.

Therefore, the frequency of the tuning fork can be given by:

f2 = 300 + 5 = 305 Hz

As we can see, the frequency of the tuning fork remains the same before and after loading it with wax.

Hence, the frequency of the fork originally is 305 Hz.
