Verified Answer
A 220V d.c. shunt motor takes a total current of 80A and runs at 800 r...
Since Ish = 220/ 50 = 4.4 A
Ia = 80-4.4 = 75.6 Amp
Eb= V - IaRa
= 220- (75.6 x 0.1) = 212.44
Driving Power Eb.Ia = 212.44x75.6
= 16060 N-m
Output Power = Driving Power -  Iron and Friction Losses
= 16060-1600
= 14460 W
Armature Torque
Ta = EbIa/2πN   if N in r.p.s
Ta = (60EbIa)/(2πN)  if N in r.p.m
so; Ta = (9.55EbIa)/N   if N in r.p.s
= (9.55 x 212.44 x 75.6)/800
= 191.7 N-m
Since the whole of armature torque is not available for doing useful work, a certain part is required to overcome iron & friction losses
Hence Lost torque = 9.55x (1600/800)
=  19.1 N-m
Hence Useful Shaft torque = Ta - Tlost
= 191.7 - 19.1
= 172.6 N-m

A 220V d.c. shunt motor takes a total current of 80A and runs at 800 r...
Ω and armature resistance is 0.2 Ω. Calculate the following:

1. The armature current
2. The shunt field current
3. The output power of the motor
4. The efficiency of the motor

Solution:

1. The armature current can be calculated using Ohm's law:

Armature current = (Supply voltage - voltage drop across shunt field) / Armature resistance
= (220V - 50Ω x 80A) / 0.2Ω
= 500A

2. The shunt field current can be calculated using Ohm's law:

Shunt field current = voltage drop across shunt field / Shunt field resistance
= 50Ω x 80A
= 4000A

3. The output power of the motor can be calculated using the formula:

Output power = (Armature current x Supply voltage) - (Armature current^2 x Armature resistance)
= (500A x 220V) - (500A^2 x 0.2Ω)
= 110000W or 110 kW

4. The efficiency of the motor can be calculated using the formula:

Efficiency = Output power / Input power

Input power = Supply voltage x Total current
= 220V x 80A
= 17600W or 17.6 kW

Efficiency = 110 kW / 17.6 kW
= 6.25 or 625% (This value is not possible as efficiency cannot be more than 100%. There might be an error in the calculations or in the given values.)
