Calculation of Molar Conductivity of Acetic Acid at Infinite Dilution

Given:

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaAc = 91 S cm2 mol-1

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of HCl = 425.9 S cm2 mol-1

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaCl = 126.4 S cm2 mol-1

We can use the Kohlrausch's law of independent migration of ions to calculate the molar conductivity of acetic acid at infinite dilution.

Kohlrausch's law states that the molar conductivity of an electrolyte at infinite dilution is equal to the sum of molar conductivities of its cation and anion at infinite dilution.

Therefore,

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of acetic acid = Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of Na+ ion + Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of Ac- ion

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of acetic acid = (Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaAc - Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaCl) + (Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of HCl)

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of acetic acid = (91 - 126.4) + 425.9

Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of acetic acid = 390.5 S cm2 mol-1

Therefore, option A is the correct answer.

Calculation of Molar Conductivity of Acetic Acid at Infinite Dilution

Given:

  • Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaAc = 91 S cm2 mol-1

  • Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of HCl = 425.9 S cm2 mol-1

  • Molar conductivity at infinite dilution of NaCl = 126.4 S cm2 mol-1

We can use the Kohlrausch's law of independent migration of ions to calculate the molar conductivity of acetic acid at infinite dilution.

Kohlrausch's Law:

The molar conductivity of an electrolyte at infinite dilution is equal to the sum of molar conductivities of its cation and anion at infinite dilution.
