Given that the vertical permeability in sand layer can be estimated using Allen- Hazen’s formula
Kv = C (D10)2
C = 1.5 and D10 = 0.016mm
Kv = 0.0384 x 10-3 cm/sec
Horizontal permeability for sandy layer is 350% of Kv
i.e. Kh = 3.5 (0.0384 x10-3 ) = 0.134 x10-3 cm/sec
Kh(equ) =(K1H1+K2H2)/(H1+H2)
Here K1 = 0.134 x10-3 cm/sec; H1 = 1.5m
K2 = 10-4 cm/sec; H2 = 3.5m
On substituting, we get Kh(equ) = 1.102 x 10-4 cm/sec
