Suppose the maximum Sequence no which is possible with Go-Back N, Stop and Wait and Selective repeat protocol is k. What is the size of the Sender window for each protocol respectively?
  • a)
    K-1, 1, K+1/2
  • b)
    K+1, 1, k+1/2
  • c)
    K, 1, K+1
  • d)
    K, 1, K/2
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Suppose the maximum Sequence no which is possible with Go-Back N, Stop...
Sender window size for stop and wait protocol is always 1.
And, for going back it is on less than no of sequences which are possible. if N be the total no of sequences possible, than, K = N - 1, i.e., Size of sender’s window = K
For Selective repeat protocol, No of sequences which are possible= (Sender window size + Receiver window Size) / 2
Also, Sender Window Size = Receiver Window Size
Then, No of sequences Possible = Sender window Size
Hence, Sender Window Size = K + 1

Suppose the maximum Sequence no which is possible with Go-Back N, Stop...
Explanation:

Go-Back-N Protocol:
- In Go-Back-N protocol, the sender can have a maximum window size of k.
- The sequence numbers range from 0 to k-1. Therefore, the size of the sender window is k-1.

Stop and Wait Protocol:
- In Stop and Wait protocol, the sender can only send one frame at a time and waits for an acknowledgment before sending the next frame.
- Therefore, the size of the sender window is 1.

Selective Repeat Protocol:
- In Selective Repeat protocol, the sender can have a maximum window size of k.
- The sequence numbers range from 0 to k-1. Therefore, the size of the sender window is k.

Comparison of Sender Window Sizes:
- From the above explanations, we can see that the size of the sender window for Go-Back-N protocol is k-1, for Stop and Wait protocol is 1, and for Selective Repeat protocol is k.
- Comparing the sizes, we can see that option 'C' (K, 1, K 1) is the correct answer.

Summary:
- The size of the sender window for Go-Back-N protocol is k-1.
- The size of the sender window for Stop and Wait protocol is 1.
- The size of the sender window for Selective Repeat protocol is k.
- Therefore, the correct answer is option 'C' (K, 1, K 1).
