Verified Answer
Select the option that correctly identifies the chemical bonds present...
In polysaccharides, monosaccharides are linked together by glycosidic bond (C−O−C). It is formed by dehydration between two carbon atoms of two adjacent monosaccharides. Water has hydrogen bonding. Amino acids in a protein are linked through peptide bond whereas ester bond is present in fats.

Chemical Bonds in Biomolecules

Polysaccharides - A, Proteins - B, Fats - C, Water - D

Glycosidic Bond in Polysaccharides
Polysaccharides are long chains of monosaccharides (simple sugars) linked together by glycosidic bonds. Glycosidic bonds are covalent bonds that link two monosaccharide units. The bond forms between the hydroxyl (OH) group of one monosaccharide and the anomeric carbon atom of another monosaccharide.

Peptide Bond in Proteins
Proteins are made up of amino acids joined together by peptide bonds. A peptide bond is a covalent bond formed between the carboxyl group of one amino acid and the amino group of another amino acid, releasing a molecule of water.

Ester Bond in Fats
Fats or triglycerides are composed of a glycerol molecule and three fatty acid molecules. The bond between the glycerol molecule and fatty acids is an ester bond. Ester bonds are covalent bonds that form between the carboxyl group of the fatty acid and the hydroxyl group of the glycerol molecule.

Hydrogen Bond in Water
Water molecules are held together by hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonding is a weak electrostatic attraction between a positively charged hydrogen atom and a negatively charged atom (oxygen or nitrogen) in another molecule.

Correct Answer: Option B - A - Glycosidic, B - Peptide, C - Ester, D - Hydrogen
Polysaccharides are linked by glycosidic bonds, Proteins are made up of amino acids joined by peptide bonds, Fats are composed of a glycerol molecule and three fatty acids with ester bonds, and water molecules are held together by hydrogen bonds.
