  • Artificial system of classification, put forward by Linnaeus uses one or two morphological characters for grouping of organisms.
  • Natural system of classification takes into consideration comparable study of a number of characters so as to bring out natural similarities and dissimilarities and hence natural relationship among the organisms. A natural system for classification of seed Plants was proposed by Bentham add Hooker (1862-1883) in their three-volume treatise 'Genera Plantarum.
  • Classification based on evolutionary relationships of organisms is called phylogenetic system of classification. First phylogenetic system was proposed by Engler and Parental (1887-99). In their treatise 'Die Naturlichen famillen' Engler and Prantl arranged flowering plants according to increasing complexity of their floral morphology.

Match Column-I with Column-II and select the correct option from the c...
The correct option is A-(ii), B-(i), C-(iii).

Explanation:
Column-I represents different systems of classification, while Column-II represents the scientists associated with each system.

(A) Artificial system of classification:
- An artificial system of classification is based on a single or a few characteristics of organisms.
- It does not consider the natural relationships between organisms.
- Linnaeus developed an artificial system of classification, also known as the binomial nomenclature system.
- Linnaeus classified organisms based on their morphological characteristics.

(B) Natural system of classification:
- A natural system of classification is based on the natural relationships and similarities among organisms.
- It considers multiple characteristics and evolutionary relationships.
- Bentham and Hooker developed a natural system of classification known as the Bentham and Hooker system.
- They classified plants based on their overall similarities, including various morphological and anatomical features.

(C) Phylogenetic system of classification:
- A phylogenetic system of classification is based on the evolutionary relationships among organisms.
- It considers the common ancestry and evolutionary history of organisms.
- Engler and Prantl developed a phylogenetic system of classification known as the Engler and Prantl system.
- They classified plants based on their evolutionary relationships, considering both morphological and anatomical characteristics.

Matching the systems of classification with the scientists associated with them, we get:
A-(ii), B-(i), C-(iii)
- Linnaeus is associated with the artificial system of classification.
- Bentham and Hooker are associated with the natural system of classification.
- Engler and Prantl are associated with the phylogenetic system of classification.

Therefore, the correct option is A-(ii), B-(i), C-(iii).
