Most Upvoted Answer
Which compounds give the following tests? 1.ninhydrin test 2. Molisch ...
Molisch's test (named after Austrian botanist Hans Molisch) is a sensitive chemical test for the presence of carbohydrates, based on the dehydration of the carbohydrate by sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid to produce an aldehyde, which condenses with two molecules of phenol (usually α-naphthol, though other phenols (e.g. resorcinol, thymol) also give colored products), resulting in a red- or purple-colored compound..............and answer of question should be carbohydrates
Community Answer
Which compounds give the following tests? 1.ninhydrin test 2. Molisch ...
Ninhydrin Test:
The ninhydrin test is used to detect the presence of amino acids and proteins. When ninhydrin reacts with these compounds, a purple color is produced.

Molisch Test:
The Molisch test is used to detect the presence of carbohydrates. It involves the reaction of carbohydrates with a reagent called α-naphthol in the presence of sulfuric acid. This reaction gives a deep purple coloration.

Benedict Test:
The Benedict test is used to detect the presence of reducing sugars. It involves the reaction of reducing sugars with a solution of copper sulfate in the presence of an alkaline solution (usually sodium carbonate). The reducing sugars reduce the copper ions, resulting in the formation of a colored precipitate ranging from green to red, depending on the amount of reducing sugar present.

Biuret Test:
The Biuret test is used to detect the presence of proteins. It involves the reaction of proteins with a solution of copper sulfate in the presence of an alkaline solution (usually sodium hydroxide). The reaction forms a violet-colored complex due to the coordination of copper ions with the peptide bonds in proteins.

Summary:
- Ninhydrin test: Detects the presence of amino acids and proteins, producing a purple color.
- Molisch test: Detects the presence of carbohydrates, producing a deep purple color.
- Benedict test: Detects the presence of reducing sugars, forming a colored precipitate ranging from green to red.
- Biuret test: Detects the presence of proteins, forming a violet-colored complex.

These tests are commonly used in the field of biochemistry and can provide valuable information about the composition of a given compound or solution. It is important to note that these tests are not exclusive to the compounds mentioned and can also give positive results for other related compounds. Therefore, it is necessary to interpret the results in conjunction with other tests and analytical techniques to confirm the presence of specific compounds.
