Formation of the Constituent Assembly:
Under the Cabinet Mission Plan, the Constituent Assembly was to be formed with members elected by the Provincial Assemblies and nominated by the Princely States. The Assembly was to have 389 members, with 296 representing the Provinces and 93 representing the Princely States. However, the Muslim League, which wanted a separate nation for Muslims, boycotted the Constituent Assembly.

Working of the Constituent Assembly:
The Constituent Assembly held its first meeting on December 9, 1946, and elected Dr. Rajendra Prasad as its President. The Assembly was tasked with drafting a Constitution for India that would secure the country's independence from British rule and provide a framework for the government's functioning.

The Assembly took almost three years to draft the Constitution, with members deliberating on various provisions and making amendments. The Constitution was finally adopted on November 26, 1949, and came into effect on January 26, 1950.
