Different Hormones

The hormone that is different from others is Ptyalin.

Gastrin, Glucagon, and Secretin are hormones secreted by the endocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract and play a vital role in regulating the digestive process. Whereas Ptyalin is an enzyme secreted by the salivary glands that helps in the digestion of carbohydrates.

Gastrin: It is a hormone secreted by the G-cells (endocrine cells) of the stomach. It stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid and pepsinogen from the parietal and chief cells, respectively. Gastrin also promotes the contraction of the lower esophageal sphincter, which prevents the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus.

Glucagon: It is a hormone secreted by the alpha cells of the pancreas. It acts on the liver to stimulate the breakdown of glycogen into glucose, which is then released into the bloodstream. Glucagon also promotes the conversion of amino acids into glucose, a process known as gluconeogenesis.

Secretin: It is a hormone secreted by the S-cells of the duodenum in response to the presence of acidic chyme. Secretin stimulates the secretion of bicarbonate-rich pancreatic juice from the pancreas, which neutralizes the acidity of the chyme.

Ptyalin: It is an enzyme secreted by the salivary glands in response to the presence of food in the mouth. Ptyalin breaks down complex carbohydrates (starch) into simpler sugars (glucose, maltose, and maltotriose), which can be easily absorbed by the small intestine.

In conclusion, while Gastrin, Glucagon, and Secretin are hormones that play a significant role in regulating the digestive process, Ptyalin is an enzyme that helps in the digestion of carbohydrates. Hence, Ptyalin is different from the other three hormones.
