To form bonds, the aluminum atoms need to promote one of the 3s electrons to the 3p orbital. Then, the three half-filled 3p orbitals of each aluminum atom hybridize to form six sp3 hybrid orbitals. These hybrid orbitals overlap with the 1s orbitals of the hydrogen atoms to form Al-H bonds. Thus, Al2H6 undergoes sp3 hybridization.

  3. H3PO3: The phosphorus atom in H3PO3 molecule has five valence electrons, and the oxygen and hydrogen atoms have six and one valence electrons, respectively. The phosphorus atom undergoes sp3 hybridization, where one 3s orbital and three 3p orbitals hybridize to form four sp3 hybrid orbitals. These hybrid orbitals overlap with the 1s orbitals of the hydrogen atoms and the 2p orbitals of the oxygen atoms to form P-H and P-O bonds, respectively.

  4. H3BO3: The boron atom in H3BO3 molecule has three valence electrons, and the oxygen and hydrogen atoms have six and one valence electrons, respectively. The boron atom undergoes sp2 hybridization, where one 2s orbital and two 2p orbitals hybridize to form three sp2 hybrid orbitals. These hybrid orbitals overlap with the 1s orbitals of the hydrogen atoms and the 2p orbitals of the oxygen atoms to form B-H and B-O bonds, respectively.



Therefore, the molecules that undergo hybridization involving vacant orbitals are B2H6 and Al2H6.
