When the elevator is moving upwards with an acceleration of g/3, the apparent weight of the man in the elevator is given by the equation:

Apparent weight = Actual weight + (ma)
where m is the mass of the man, a is the acceleration of the elevator and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

Apparent weight = m(g + a)

Work done = Force x Distance

Work done = Force x Distance
= (2000/3) x 12
= 8000 J
