Let the total distance be d.
Time taken for the first half distance is
t1= d/2V1
Time taken for the second half of the distance is
t2 = d/2V2
Mean velocity =( total distance / total time)
Vmean = [d / (d/2V2 + d/2V1)]
Vmean = (2V1V2 / V1+V2)
=> 2 / Vmean = 1/V1 + 1/V2
Given, Vmean = V
=> 2/V = 1/V1 + 1/V2 ...ans...

Mean velocity =( total distance / total time)
