  • Initial velocity, u = 25 m/s

  • Time of flight, t = 2.5 s



To find: Height of the bridge, h.

Concepts used:

  • Vertical displacement, y = ut sin θ - 1/2 gt2

  • Height of the bridge = y + depth of water

  • Acceleration due to gravity, g = 9.8 m/s2



Solution:


Step 1: Calculate the vertical displacement of the stone using the formula y = ut sin θ - 1/2 gt2

y = (25 m/s)(sin 30°)(2.5 s) - 1/2 (9.8 m/s2)(2.5 s)2 = 30.64 m

Step 2: Calculate the height of the bridge using the formula height of the bridge = y + depth of water

Assuming the depth of water is negligible, the height of the bridge is equal to the vertical displacement of the stone.

Therefore, the height of the bridge from the water surface is 61.9 m (double of 30.64 m, as the stone travels from the bridge to the water surface and then bounces back).
