Given:
Total sum = Rs.4880
Amount received by each boy = Rs.44.50
Amount received by each girl = Rs.55.25
Total number of boys and girls = 100

To find: Number of girls

Let the number of boys be 'x'
Then, the number of girls will be '100 - x'

Total amount received by boys = Amount received by each boy * Number of boys
Total amount received by boys = 44.5x

Total amount received by girls = Amount received by each girl * Number of girls
Total amount received by girls = 55.25(100 - x)

Total sum = Total amount received by boys + Total amount received by girls
4880 = 44.5x + 55.25(100 - x)

Solving the above equation, we get:
x = 60

Therefore, the number of girls = 100 - x = 40.

Hence, the correct answer is option C.
