Enhancement mode transistors are those transistors which require a threshold voltage to start conducting. The threshold voltage is a voltage level below which the transistor remains in the off state. When the gate voltage of the transistor is increased above the threshold voltage, the transistor starts conducting.

Types of Enhancement Mode Transistors

There are three types of enhancement mode transistors:

1. MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor)
2. JFET (Junction Field Effect Transistor)
3. Depletion mode MOSFET

Out of these three types of transistors, only MOSFET can be used in enhancement mode. This is because MOSFET is designed to operate in enhancement mode.

MOSFET

MOSFET is a three-terminal device that consists of a source, gate, and drain. The gate is separated from the channel by a thin layer of oxide. When a voltage is applied to the gate, an electric field is created which controls the flow of current between the source and drain.

MOSFET can be operated in two modes:

1. Enhancement mode: In this mode, a voltage is applied to the gate to create an electric field which allows current to flow between the source and drain.
2. Depletion mode: In this mode, the channel is already conducting and a voltage is applied to the gate to reduce the current flow.

Conclusion
