The oxygen evolved during photosynthesis, comes from water molecules....

Elements Involved in Oxygen Evolution during Photosynthesis

The oxygen evolved during photosynthesis comes from water molecules through a process called photolysis.

Key Elements Involved:
- Manganese: Manganese is a key element involved in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) of photosystem II (PSII) in plants. It plays a crucial role in the splitting of water molecules into oxygen, protons, and electrons.
- Chlorine: Chlorine is also involved in the process of photosynthesis as a part of the water-splitting reaction. It helps in the release of oxygen gas during the light-dependent reactions.

Explanation:
- During photosynthesis, water molecules are split into oxygen, protons, and electrons by the OEC in PSII.
- Manganese ions within the OEC are responsible for catalyzing this water-splitting reaction.
- Chlorine ions also play a role in stabilizing the OEC and facilitating the release of oxygen during the process.

Therefore, the pair of elements involved in the reaction of oxygen evolution during photosynthesis is Manganese and Chlorine.

The oxygen evolved during photosynthesis, comes from water molecules....
Oxygen is evolved during photosynthesis by the process of photolysis of water taking place in the membranes of grana thylakoids. The phenomenon of breaking up of water into hydrogen and oxygen in the illuminated chloroplasts is called photolysis or photocatalytic splitting of water. Light energy, an oxygen evolving complex (OEC) and electron carrier Yz are required for this process. Oxygen evolving complex is attached to the inner surface of thylakoid membrane and the enzyme has four Mn ions. Light energised changes in Mn (Mn2+,Mn3+,Mn4+) remove electrons from OH component of water forming oxygen. Liberation of O2 also requires two other ions, Ca2+ and Cl
