Solution:

Given: Production rate = 4 pieces/hour
Average processing time = 60 minutes

WIP Inventory = Production rate x Average processing time

WIP Inventory = 4 x 60 = 240 minutes

New Average processing time = 60 – 0.3 x 60 = 42 minutes

New WIP Inventory = 4 x 42 = 168 minutes

Change in WIP Inventory = New WIP Inventory – WIP Inventory

Change in WIP Inventory = 168 – 240 = -72 minutes

Percentage change in WIP Inventory = Change in WIP Inventory / WIP Inventory x 100

Percentage change in WIP Inventory = -72 / 240 x 100 = -30%

Therefore, the answer is option D. The WIP inventory decreases by 30%.
