Select the correct pair.a)Large colorless empty - Subsidiary cells cel...
The correct pair is option C: Cells of medullary rays - Interfascicular cells that form part of the cambial ring.

Explanation:
The cambial ring is a layer of meristematic tissue in the stems of dicot plants. It is responsible for the secondary growth of the stem, leading to the thickening of the plant. The cambial ring consists of two types of cells:

1. Fusiform initials: These are elongated cells that divide longitudinally and give rise to secondary xylem (wood) cells towards the inside and secondary phloem (inner bark) cells towards the outside.

2. Ray initials: These are radially arranged cells that divide horizontally and give rise to cells called ray cells or medullary ray cells.

Medullary rays are horizontal rows of cells that extend from the pith to the bark in the stem. They are perpendicular to the growth rings and transport water and nutrients radially across the stem. These cells also serve as storage and support tissue. Medullary rays are composed of two types of cells:

1. Parenchyma cells: These are living, thin-walled cells that store starch, oils, and other substances. They are responsible for radial transport of water and nutrients.

2. Interfascicular cells: These are specialized cells that form part of the cambial ring. They are located between the vascular bundles and provide mechanical support to the stem. Interfascicular cells have thick walls and are often lignified.

Therefore, the correct pair is option C: Cells of medullary rays - Interfascicular cells that form part of the cambial ring.

The Fascicular vascular cambium, interfascicular cambium and cork-cambium are examples of lateral meristems and are responsible for the secondary growth in dicotyledonous plants. In dicot stems, the cells of the cambium present between the primary xylem and primary phloem are the intrafascicular cambium. Additionally, the cells of medullary rays, adjoining this intrafascicular cambium become meristematic and form the interfascicular cambium. Thus, a continuous ring of cambium is formed.
