NCERT is essential to ace NEET and must be studied thoroughly. Most of the exam questions are based on NCERT syllabus, and for the rest, Objective NCERT at your fingertips by MTG, NCERT Exemplar, Trueman's biology, Arihant and Cengage are sufficient sources. Don't forget to look into the summary section at the end of each chapter, which may contain important information that might be missed otherwise.
While NCERT should certainly be the first source of study for NEET, especially Biology, it is not enough to score a good rank. Usually, 80-90% of the questions are taken from NCERT syllabus, however, for the remaining 10-20%, one must refer to other sources as well. NCERT can only help you qualify the entrance test, but with NEET now the single level medical entrance exam, the competition is much higher and one must look beyond NCERT to secure a good rank.
38 chapters. NEET Biology syllabus has 10 units, which in turn have 38 chapters in total. 22 chapters are in class 11 NCERT syllabus and the remaining 16 chapters are covered in NCERT Class 12 syllabus.
NEET Biology 2023 will include 100 questions in total, 90 of which are to be answered. The number of questions from NCERT for NEET Biology changes annually, but usually most of the questions are derived from NCERT. For example, NEET 2019 had around 84 questions that were either directly or indirectly taken from NCERT, with 78 of them being solely based on NCERT. Similarly, NEET 2018 had 82 NCERT-based questions and NEET 2017 had 76. The pattern changes each year.
